Walk The Talk with your Seat At The Table

About 5 years ago...

I found myself at a leadership retreat that completely shifted my perspective.

In the middle of this intense 2 day workshop, the facilitator had asked me this question:

“What would you be doing if you could stop playing small?”

At the time, I thought I had the answer. After all, my life had been focused on climbing the career ladder, hitting performance goals, and making an impact at work.

But sitting in that room, surrounded by 100 other women on their own leadership journeys, I realised that I had been limiting myself. I felt deeply that I was not living up to my full potential. In that moment, it became clear to me that I had only one life, and I held the power to create meaningful change.

I started asking myself some big questions:

1. What legacy do I want to leave behind?

2. How can I leverage my strengths as a force for good?

3. What ripple effect could come from igniting the fire within me?

That retreat sparked a journey of self-discovery, leadership, and purpose-driven action. I decided I wanted significance. I wanted to take big, intelligent risks, pursue what deeply mattered to me, and rise alongside others with the same vision.

It was 17th of July 2019, when I decided I was going to start ELLEUMINATE - a platform to enable women to create the career and life they love, to uncover their bigger game, to take charge and lead on their own terms.

My dear friend, Cheryl Ng-Dharsan, who was also on this retreat, stood by me during this realisation. Despite her own struggles, which she will share on this podcast, Cheryl cheered me on through every step of the retreat. It was only natural that we would come together to launch the Take Her Lead podcast, a platform where real women share real stories of courage, determination, and resilience. We’re kicking it off with our first episode, Walk the Talk, because this is where it all begins—leading by example.

We’re releasing one episode a week, and next week’s episode is about career navigation and pivoting from one of the pioneer women leaders in the recruitment industry.

When you align your actions with your words, you demonstrate the values you advocate. As you’re At The Table, you have the responsibility of making that seat count by leading with integrity, and using it to create meaningful change.

This week, I challenge you today to ask yourself the same questions I did five years ago:

1. What is the legacy you want to leave behind?

2. How can you leverage your strengths as a force for good?

3. What ripple effect can you create by igniting the fire within you?
